Forum: Human Rights – Indigenous People of Nicaragua

On October 1st, we held our first forum on the human rights of the indigenous communities and afro-descendants of Nicaragua. The leaders of 5 different indigenous communities attended. We also welcomed experts on the subject who visited us from Colombia, Argentina and Nicaragua and are part of the United Nations.  They provided us with background on the human rights movement and presented a short documentary made by the UN on indigenous communities. To conclude the event,   Dra. Maria Luisa Acosta, Director of the Center for Legal Assistance to Indigenous Communities (CALPI), provided us with a passionate explanation of the current national situation regarding the indigenous communities and invited us to support the cause.
