Psychology Club and students' trip to a Psychiatric Hospital

Note from Dr. Humphrey: Psychology Club and students visited what used to be the National Psychiatric Hospital, or "kilómetro 5", in the South Highway on September 25th, 2013.This is now a teaching-hospital that treats the mentally ill in a psycho-social more holistic way.  Students toured the buildings, including a library, a special window for psychotherapy research, outpatient clinics and a pharmacy. Students brought clothing and hygiene products, two documents written by students with their research about schizophrenia and a history of this hospital, and a piñata for the patients.  They were received by the Hospital's Director, Dra. Salazar, Dr. Alonzo, Psychiatrist, and by Lic. Jimenez, Social Worker.  The experience helped them understand the situation at this hospital and apply the different concepts they are currently studying. They were encouraged to return and to contribute with the well-being of patients.
