HAZEL PETERSEN: A woman that had an enormous effect on bringing life to the campus back in 1993 with the opening of the University of Mobile in San Marcos, Nicaragua.  Hazel Petersen, retired academic dean of Mobile, was asked by Michael Magnoli to come out of retirement and create out of the cosmos a university. It was her

organizational genius that took the abstract idea of the university, as she sat at a card table in the ruins of the Teacher Normal

School, and created the administrative and academic organization of the San Marcos campus out of her considerable intellect. She implemented it all with her iron will, covered with a dollop of Southern genteel manners. Last Wednesday, February 15^th, we had the honor of her visit.
