Dr. Sevilla has a Ph.D., and a M.A., from Stanford University, California; and a B.A. in Economics, from the University of Hawaii, Manoa Campus, Oahu, Hawaii. In 1966 after he graduated from Instituto Pedagogico de Varones La Salle in Managua, LASPAU awarded him a scholarship to study at the University of Hawaii where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha of Hawaii, in 1970. Thereafter, Stanford University awarded him a full time fellowship for the Ph.D.
Dr. Sevilla has always liked to combine teaching with research, and practical work experience. According to him, “While advanced degrees give you much needed knowledge, and research sharpens your analytical skills, only practical work experience in your field gives you wisdom in your profession, and above all, credibility, in the eyes of your students.”
The articles that Dr. Sevilla has authored or co-authored through the years have been published by The Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C.; The Journal of Comparative Economics; The Journal of Developing Studies; The Developing Economies, Cuadernos de Economia, and Descentralizacion en Marcha. He has done work, and/or consulting in the following areas: Agricultural Development and Economic Growth, Economic Consequences of Land Redistribution Schemes, Production Economics, Consumption Economics, Labor Economics, Fiscal and External Sustainability Models, Fiscal Consequences of Public Sector Reforms, Health Economics, Poverty Reduction Strategies, Econometric Estimation of Profit Functions among Guatemalan Farms, of Cost Functions among Salvadorian Farms, of Labor Demand Functions in the Central American Manufacturing Sector.
